The importance of control

Guaranteeing train regularity and travel safety is an operation that is regulated from the Centralised Traffic Control points (CTC) that are installed in the Sarrià and Sant Boi de Llobregat stations.

New technologies mean rail traffic need no longer be controlled from each station and have provided for centralised control at several points along the line, in order to speed up control.

All rail traffic is controlled from the Centralised Traffic Control points, using advanced technological systems. The information provided over the loudspeaker system to the stations as well as any incidents on the lines are also monitored from these points.

At each of the Centralised Traffic Control points there is a synoptic chart of the line, where the routes, the position of the trains, the position of the points, the signalling status and the command post are all shown. The two CTCs each have a crisis room which is used for taking decisions whenever this is required by operational incidents occurring.

The CTCs have an uninterrupted electricity supply system that guarantees operation for several hours, in the event of a failure in the external electricity supply.
