Following in the footsteps of different companies with a longstanding railway tradition, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya was first set up on September 5, 1979 and formally constituted several months later, on December 20.

In this way, it became the first public company of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Did you know that in 1905, the steam traction of the Sarrià train was replaced by electric traction and the Spanish track gauge by the international track gauge, making it one of the first electrical railways in Spain?
