The rolling stock inherited in 1979 was obsolete in technical terms, and needed to be renovated from the standpoint of both the image of change and the improvement in services offered.

In 1995, the 112 series trains started to operate along the Barcelona-Vallès line, after the 111 series trains, which made it possible to put the Vallès underground network into operation.

There has always been a greater variation in the rolling stock on the Llobregat-Anoia line, as apart from serving passengers, the trains running on this line were used to transport goods. During the first few years, transportation services continued to be supplied to passengers using trains operated by electrical traction and diesel automotives. In 1987 the first 211 series trains began to arrive, and in 1999 on occasion of the start-up of the Baix Llobregat underground network, the 213 series trains were first put into operation.

FGC has other rolling stock: six automotives on the Núria rack railway, five on the Montserrat rack railway (2003) and funicular railways of Sant Joan, Santa Cova, Vallvidrera and Gelida, most of which have been totally remodelled or renovated over this time.

Total number of railway cars
1979:  138
2004:  244

Did you know that if we placed the 84 trains of the FGC in a line, one after another, we would form a line almost 5 km long, equivalent to the distance between the Passeig de Gràcia and the enclosure of the Universal Forum of Cultures being held in Barcelona?
