Information about the school
trains service

What is FGC’s school train service and what reasons justify the provision of this service?

The school train service by Ferrocarrils is a pioneering school transportation program. This service consists of a mobility plan specifically designed for all students up to 16 years old who travel on the Barcelona-Vallès Line. This line is used by a significant volume of passengers from schools and colleges.

The program’s fundamental objectives are to facilitate student mobility using rail transport, reduce traffic congestion and enhance the safety, comfort, and accessibility of minors, while also increasing the comfort of other customers by grouping together these similar individual or school student groups.

In essence, through this service, FGC aims to provide fully-inclusive accessibility to all schools near the line, and contribute to the goal of increasingly sustainable and safe mobility.

Currently, the school transport service transports a daily average of 1,100 students from their places of residence to schools and vice versa.

Operation of the school transport service

To make this service possible, carriages are reserved exclusively for students in 10 out of 1,161 trains that operate daily on the Barcelona-Vallès Line. These carriages are marked to be easily recognisable.

Preferably, students should use the carriages reserved for them, although, subject to availability, they can use others as long as they have a valid transport ticket for their
intended journey.

Any student can use the reserved carriages regardless of the type of transport ticket they have (T-16, T-jove, etc.).
The school transport service includes the following:
