The bicitancats

The Bicitancats project is a project launched by the Generalitat de Catalunya to improve the bike-public transport intermodality with secure parking lots and rental bicycles.

With this project, we want to achieve:

  • Encouraging the use of bicycles as a complement to public transport in order to increase the territorial coverage of stations and the number of public transport users. The bicycle facilitates access to public transport and makes the bike-public transport chain more competitive with respect to private transport.
  • Increasing the safety of bicycles parked in our facilities, to encourage the use of bicycles as a complement to public transport.

Currently there are already 157 secure bicycle spaces at the Biciestació de Sarrià, Sant Boí, Sant Quirze, Universidad Autónoma, Terrassa United Nations, and Sabadell Nord stations.

In addition, this year it is planned to put into service 3 bicitancats on the Barcelona-Vallès line, at Bellaterra, Can Feu | Gràcia and Valldoreix stations; and 7 bicitancats on the Llobregat-Anoia line, at Vilanova del Camí, Martorell Enlace, Pallejà, Piera, Sant Andreu de la Barca, Sant Vicenç de Castellet, and Sant Vicenç dels Horts stations.

Line Llobregat-Anoia

The bicitancats have space for 340 bicycles and all of them are equipped with access control, lighting and continuous surveillance with direct communication with the security forces, to ensure the safety and comfort of all users.

In addition, you can check the overall occupancy of the bicitancats in real time and contact the customer service and incident resolution service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Electric bicycles

Since 2017, the City Council of Sant Quirze and FGC have been working together to offer the service of shared use electric bicycles for workers in the nearby industrial estates and customers of FGC.

Thanks to the new mobile app, users will be able to identify the bike they want to use and geolocate their available fleet at all times.

This initiative helps to minimize travel time between the station and the workstations; while positioning the electric bike as an energy-efficient means of transport, ideal for short distances.

TOURISM

Our aim is to achieve tourist deseasonalization in the Pyrenees, to promote a more sustainable and environmentally friendly model of tourism, and to combat climate change. We want to create a future for the Catalan territory.

For this reason, FGC promotes the use of bicycles in the Pyrenees mountain resorts with the aim of boosting and promoting tourism and sport 365 days a year.

To this end, we have created a range of products and services related to cycling in mountain resorts; we collaborate with institutions and municipalities to increase the competitiveness of the tourism sector in the territory and with private initiatives for the structuring and promotion of cycling products and events. In addition, we participate in the organization of various events such as the Vuelta Ciclista a Cataluña (since 2011), we create new infrastructures and improve existing ones, signpost routes, and make use of technology and social networks for the promotion and dynamisation of bicycle touring.

BIKE IN THE COMPANY

FGC, in collaboration with Mondraker, incorporates electric bikes at La Molina, Vall de Núria, Vallter and Boí Taüll stations to avoid CO₂ emissions during regular internal journeys and promote sustainable mobility, with benefits for both the environment and human health.

The use of these bicycles for a hundred days of operation in summer will mean that around 2 tonnes of CO₂ will not be emitted into the atmosphere.

This action is part of the Internal Mobility Plan with 0-emission alternative vehicles and it is part of the 2030 Climate Action Agenda aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals to combat climate change.
